A Staff member writes : Anason is one of the MOST SWEETEST GIRLS! She does need to put on some weight and will come with time. Volunteers love her as well as staff. She is good with other dogs but prefers the company of humans. If you are sitting, she prefers to have her head on your lap! She walks gently on a leash and seems to be housebroken.

BEHAVIOR : EXPERIENCED HOME
Anason came to our center after a member of the public found her as a stray. Finder kept Anason for two days but she was being bullied by resident cat. Finder states when first found Anason was initially very frightened but eventually warmed up and was friendly and soft. She would whine in a crate but chew things in the home if left alone uncrated. During intake, Anason was friendly and allowed all handling, but was frightened and trembling when put in kennel. Once warmed up and comfortable, Anason was friendly and soliciting attention. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body neutral. Anason stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, ears back, body a bit cautious. She followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body a bit cautious at each pass. Anason did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, playfully jumping up on assessor at end of item. She had no interest in Food, Toy, or Rawhide. When off leash with other dogs, Anason is a polite greeter but does not engage in play. She will often wander the yard and solicit human attention. The Behavior Team feels Anason would do well with an Experienced adopter that can provide her with a positive structured routine.. She may initially need a calm, quiet, structured introduction to her new environment so she can relax and know what to expect. Once comfortable Anason displays very social, wiggly and playful, but can initially be overwhelmed and need time to settle in. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn crate training and socialization, as well as long lasting chews such as rawhide and nylabones for when she is alone in the home.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body cautious, mouth closed.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body cautious.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw.
Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating.
Toy: 1. No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
dog-dog:When off leash with other dogs, Anason is a polite greeter but does not engage in play. She will often wander the yard and solicit human attention.
