12/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Hold onto your hearts…..Casanova is here! Named after the historical smooth talking charmer, Casanova lives up to his name. Playful, affectionate and handsome he certainly charmed his way into my heart. Seems very Housetrained, good on the leash, he sits when asked and takes a treat gently. Casanova will sometimes jump on the leash to play but responds to a firm ‘no’, and once in a home with regular exercise and play time may no longer do this. His markings are gorgeous, and although he’s a bit too thin he respectfully takes treats, and allowed me to put a coat on him against the chill air but wasn’t completely thrilled with it. Off leash in the yard he loved playing with a plush toy, amusing himself in play and then bringing it to me for a game of tug. He’s so much fun! Greeting other dogs and briefly playing in group, appropriately energetic, affectionate and playful, this Casanova is sure to win hearts wherever he goes. He’s hopeful he’ll win yours!
12/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cassanova walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Cassanova played tug-of-war with the leash; body was soft and was not difficult to distract him. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Cassanova appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Grab at the leash with a soft body was not difficult to distract him. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Cassanova greets well and will briefly engage in play. He becomes overwhelmed when solicited with exuberant play and will walk away from the helper dog.
12/03/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Cassanova has shown interest in socializing with calmer male and female dogs. He remains polite during interaction. He has briefly engaged in gentle play when solicited, and is otherwise tolerant of polite solicitation. Cassanova may become overwhelmed or uncomofrtable with more exuberant styles of play. Based on the observations made while in our care, the behavior department recommends that Cassanova may be placed into a home with another calm dog. Cassanova arrived into our care as a stray, so his behaviors in-home with dogs are unknown. When off leash with other dogs Cassanova greets well and will briefly engage in play. He becomes overwhelmed when solicited with exuberant play and will walk away from the helper dog. 12/5 update: Cassanova engages briefly in play but is more interested in exploring his surroundings. He is tolerant of pushy/rough play as well as a forward female. 12/6: Cassanova briefly greets then mostly keeps to himself. 12/7: Cassanova ignores play solicitation and mostly keeps to himself. 12/8 update: Cassanova greets well and is polite with uncomfortable dogs. He will not engage when solicited.
