Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Casey previously lived with one adult. She reported to be shy with strangers and tolerant of other dogs when walking on leash. When left alone the owner stated Casey can be anxious and is easily startled by loud sharp noises. The owner also mentioned that Casey guards her food, toys and chew treats, and will give warning by growling but has never attempted to bite. At intake it was noted that Casey was a little nervous with a tense body posture. She preferred to stay close to her owner and looked down for introduction. Casey was receptive to going slow and displayed a more relaxed posture but remained shy. When approaching Casey in her kennel she had fearful body language and snapped at the handler when attempting to remove her, but once out of her kennel she walks calmly on the leash. During SAFER Casey would not allow the assessor to collar her, and became stiff and whale eyed and gave a low growl when an attempt was made. Due to this behavior and to avoid further escalation no handling items were attempted and only resources were tested at this time. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog smells and lick, then turn away. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip neutral.
