11/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
11/24/15 09:24 Boone was found by police tethered to a pole. They brought him to ACC and report that he was friendly, outgoing, affectionate, and playful with them. Boone had a soft body during his intake and a loose, wiggly body during all handling-scan (+), collar, petting, positioning for pictures, picking up, and putting in a kennel. He took treats gently. He pulled on his leash. Boone allowed me to pick him up and put him in a kennel, but as I was shutting the door, he jumped into my lap and leaned against my chest with his paws over my arm. He leaned his head over my shoulder while I held him and pet him for a few minutes.
11/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Found by the police tethered to a pole they tell us he was friendly and affectionate with them, and then snuggled with staff during the intake process. I guess he was happy to be safely inside. Boone is likely housetrained and pulls hard on leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training. He’s a handsome redhead, a bit too thin in my opinion who’s curious and excited to meet the world. He pulls towards squirrels and dogs in the park, and is ready to meet everyone who wants to meet him. Sorry Boone. squirrels are off limits! He wants what he wants and can be single minded in his pursuit. Off leash in the back yard he loves playing with a plush toy, and tilts his head as he listens to street noises and sounds from other pens – he’s so curious about everything you can almost hear the wheels churning in his brain. In his first group with other dogs as of this writing he’s a bit anxious, rushing in quickly to interact. Boone sat by my feet as I took some notes, and almost as if he could sense I was finished turned around to drape himself in my lap for some cuddling. He was happy to get some loving, and I was happy to give it to him. Boone is energetic and playful, looking for an active person or family with whom to spend the rest of his life. If that describes you, he’s hoping you’ll visit with him today.
11/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Boone came into our center after a member of the public found him tied to a pole overnight. During intake, he had a soft, wiggly body and allowed all handling. He nervously tried to flee from his kennel and jumped into admissions counselors lap where he allowed petting for a few minutes as reassurance before going into the kennel. Boone pulled hard on his relief walk. He pulled out of assessor’s hands three times during Look attempt. Boone leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, slight wagging tail. He playfully jumped and engaged with assessor during Tag game, jumping up at end of game and requiring a few moments to settle. Boone did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He playfully engaged with Toy, keeping a firm grip with loose, wiggly body. When off leash with other dogs, Boone rushes into the pen and attempts to mount. When he is unable to mount, he becomes anxious, begins to bark, and nips at the helper dog’s ankles. The Behavior Team feels Boone would do well with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and focus, as well as not to jump up. Boone may benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play as well as durable toys such as Kongs and Nylabones to positively direct his energy. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Boone rushes into the pen and attempts to mount. When he is unable to mount, he becomes anxious, begins to bark, and nips at the helper dog’s ankles.
11/25/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Boone engages in running play but may have a play style rooted in prey drive. He is pushy when playing and will chase the other dogs while nipping at their legs. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center the behavior department recommends that Boone have a pre-adoption interaction before going to a home with another dog. When off leash with other dogs, Boone rushes into the pen and attempts to mount. When he is unable to mount, he becomes anxious, begins to bark, and nips at the helper dog’s ankles. 12/1: Boone engages in running play with playful female dogs. He continues to nip at the ankles of the other dogs during play. Boone becomes aroused in response to correction, and continues to nip and solicit play with increased intensity.
