08/09/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/09/15 19:00HRS Zuko is a neutered 10 month old miniature Bull Terrier. He has been cared for by his owner since he was two months old. His owner stated that he has shown allergic reactions to grass. He is being surrendered because of changing behavior and biting his owner. SOCIAL LIFE & PERSONALITY Zuko is described as a playful, high energy and pushy dog. He has interacted with children aged 2 to 12 years old. He allows being petted and jumps on the children while playing. When Zuko notices other dogs while being walked he will attempt to approach them to play. He doesn’t recognize when another dog doesn’t want to interact with him and he will keep approaching them sniffing. Zuko has interacted with a cat and was playful with the cat. He is house trained and kept indoors. BEHAVIOR Zuko’s owner stated that he will display aggressive behavior like growling and attempting to bite without being provoked. Zuko bit his owner recently. His owner arrived home and went to greet him but he began growling. When his owner went to open the gate where Zuko was normally restricted behind in the home, he lunged and bit his owner on his hands. His owner stated that he doesn’t like to be moved forcefully from a spot; otherwise he will begin to growl. Zuko is accustomed to being bathed 3x a month. He is house trained and walked off leash in a dog park every day. Zuko’s owner stated that he plays well with other dogs. When there are visitors at the home, Zuko is normally gated off to a section of the house because he becomes over excited while playing which frightens his owner’s visitors. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Zuko is a very energetic and playful dog. He enjoys chewing on his squeaky chew toys and playing games like tug and chase. He is well behaved well when left alone in the home. He isn’t bothered by loud sounds. He was accustomed to eating Merrick Salmon raw infused dry dog food 2x a day. He normally sleeps inside of his crate at night. DURING INTAKE Zuko was playful and approached the Admissions Counselors with a loose body and wagging tail. He listened to the command sit when offered a treat. He was collared, scanned for a microchip (positive) and photographed without displaying any aggressive behavior.

08/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zuko was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (moderate). He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Zuko was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He mouthed applying moderate pressure during the paw item. Zuko growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the resources (food, toy and rawhide). He approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Zuko was surrender to us. Hi previous owner described him as a playful, high energy and pushy dog. He has interacted with children aged 2 to 12 years old. He allows being petted and jumps on the children while playing. When Zuko notices other dogs while being walked he will attempt to approach them to play. Zuko’s owner stated that he will display aggressive behavior like growling and attempting to bite without being provoked”. In our facilities Zuko is very active and jumpy dog. He pulls a bit on the leash also he shows some guarding issues during the resources test. He needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation and training. Zuko may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1,2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand applying moderate pressure. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy: 5. Dog attempts to bite Rawhide: 5.
