06/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zorro came to us as an owner surrender on 6/6/2015. It is reported Zorro has been around children and is affectionate and playful with them. Although Zorro lived with two other dogs, his parents, owner reports Zorro will growl and bark at other dogs outside the home. Zorro was friendly upon intake. He allowed all handling and accepted treats from admissions counselor’s hand. Zorro was a bit nervous upon entering the SAFER room, walking with head and tail down. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body neutral. Zorro accepted touch during Sensitivity item, tail down, mouth closed, soft body. Tag game was skipped for medical reasons. Squeeze was performed on flank due to medical reasons, Zorro had no response to both Flank Squeezes. He allowed Food dish to be moved away, and lifted his head when assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek. Zorro had no interest in Toy. He kept a firm grip on Rawhide, body neutral, not placing his body between rawhide and assessor at all. Zorro entered the room towards the helper dog briefly, then turned away to exit, head low. The Behavior Team feels Zorro would do well in an Average home. He may benefit from being the only resident dog in the home, or an in depth interaction with other dogs in the home is recommended before adoption. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is neutral, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, mouth closed. Flank squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and body neutral. He does not place his body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: 2. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, attempts to exit, head low.
