06/16/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/16/15 11:59 Zeus is an 8month old male American Bulldog who the owner was given off of craigslit a month ago and is now being surrendered due to being too strong/big. Zeus was last at the vet earlier this year and has no known health issues/injuries. Zeus is friendly to everyone he meets. He’s a large puppy who doesn’t know his own strength/size at times and is very affectionate. Zeus lived with children of different ages ranging from 1 1/2- 12yrs old. He didn’t play or interact with the two youngest but he played exuberantly and somewhat rough (due to size/strength) with the adults and children in the home. There’s a Great Dane in the home that Zeus wasn’t allowed to interact much with but Zeus wanted to play with them. There were no cats in the home so behaviors are unknown. Zeus hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Zeus isn’t bothered by the following: being held/restrained, being disturbed while sleeping/resting. His behaviors are unknown for the following: having his food/food bowl, toys, treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture, having his nails trimmed, being brushed. Zeus will attempt to jump out of the tub during bathtime but eventually will calm down a bit. If someone approaches the home/family Zeus will jump up to greet them and lick their face until he’s petted. For a New Family to Know: Zeus is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and excitable. His activity level is described as medium-high. The owner loves how silly, playful and affectionate Zeus is. Zeus loves to play, he could play all day if you let him. When the owner is home Zeus will stay in his favorite spot or follow you. He likes chew/bones, balls, stuffed, squeaky and rope toys. He likes to play fetch, chase, wrestling and tug. Zeus is an indoor dog who according to the owner the previous owner kept him in a crate the majority of the day. Zeus sleeps on the floor near the children. He eats Pedigree dry & wet food, he’ll eat anything as a treat. Zeus is mostly house trained, he had one accident since the family had him. Zeus is walked 3-4x a day for about 30-45mins each time sometimes longer where he pulls hard on the leash and has no preference of where he “goes”. His known commands are “sit” & “stay”. Intake Behavior: Zeus had a super wiggly body. He allowed all handling and solicited attention/affection from the admissions counselor. He allowed us to scan (neg.), collar him and take his pictures.
06/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I met Zeus when he first arrived at the care center. He was being walked by staff and looked like a goofy large pup, happy go lucky, play-bowing, battling the air with his forelegs and the like… he was all over the place and looked so silly. A natural marvel, much too thin, though and one wonders if he really was fed enough. I got to meet Zeus yesterday. He was quite different. A big cold had tamed considerably his ways. His breathtaking beauty is intact, though, and I can not help marveling at how grand and gorgeous he is. Zeus needs a real good home, one that understands the breed and large dogs, and until now, this is not what happened with this oversized youngster. He was crated 24 hours a day by his first owner and misunderstood by a second short term one who meant well. Although superfriendly with all, a kid lover, very affectionate, very playful and housetrained, Zeus was surrendered for being too big, too strong and exuberant… People at times have unrealistic expectations. Well, Zeus is with us now. I really like him. He is very sweet (and I could see that when he was still well), affectionate, needy and the promise of a real masterpiece providing he lands in experienced, caring and loving hands. It is about time that Zeus finds his match and hopefully it will be with you and soon… Come and meet him at the Manhattan Care Center and make him your forever best friend.
06/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zeus pulls a bit on leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and easily engages in play, body is loose and wiggly, mouth open. Zeus showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Zeus was not interested in toys but he showed some concerning behavior during the rawhide tests -growling, but did not escalate to a snap or bite to the assess-a-hand. Zeus was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Zeus is friendly to everyone he meets. There’s a Great Dane in the home that Zeus wasn’t allowed to interact much with but Zeus wanted to play with him”. Zeus shows some guarding issues during the food bowl and rawhide test. He may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Food 4. Dog growls. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 4. Dog growls.
