09/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zeppelin came into our center after being found as a stray and brought in by police. He growled upon intake and did not allow handling. Zeppelin pulled hard on leash for his relief walk with a male handler. Zeppelin was very intent on humping both assessor and assistant, making it difficult to perform SAFER assessment items. Zeppelin briefly allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft and wiggly, then jumped up hard and humped intently. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging, but over-escalated quickly and began humping assessor, not taking redirection. He escalated quickly during Tag game, only interested in jumping up hard and humping, requiring intervention from assistant. Zepplin jumped away during Squeeze item, trying to hump so item was moved to flank, where he had no response to the actual Squeeze but was trying to hump assessor. Zeppelin licked the Food 2-3 times before losing interest, attempting to hump assistant holding the leash. He briefly engaged with durable Toy, but lost interest quickly. Zeppelin had no interest in Rawhide. He approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward, tail spine level. Due to Zeppelin’s level of strength and focus on mounting with difficulty distracting him, the Behavior Team feels he must be placed with a New Hope Partner. Some of these behaviors may improve once he is neutered, but he may benefit from training to redirect his frustrations. Look: 2. Eyes averted, body wiggly, tail wag, jumps on the Assessor at end intent on humping Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor and humping, tail wag Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is focused on jumping up hard and humping. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all to flank squeeze, humping. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Toy: 1. Briefly engages enthusiastically, then loses interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body not stiff, tail above spine level, ears forward.
