12/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zena came into our center as an owner surrender. Zena has not been around children so behavior is unknown. Owner reports Zena has lived with 7 adults in the past, has gone to doggy daycare and enjoys playing rough and exuberantly with other dogs. Owner describes Zena as very loyal and protective. It is reported she is crate trained and housebroken. Zena is very uncomfortable here in the shelter environment, sometimes baring teeth and charging front of kennel. Zena walked very skittishly on leash, darts in various directions if hears sudden noises. The Behavior Team attempted to SAFER Zena on two separate dates, and although she warmed up a significant amount by the second attempt, she was still very uncomfortable with handling and unable to SAFER, unpredictable as to her reaction to tactile handling from people she is unfamiliar with. At times Zena will stand next to assessor and at other times buck and pull back on leash attempting to flee. Due to being unable to complete the SAFER assessment, Zena must be placed with a New Hope partner. She would benefit from an experienced foster home that can provide behavior modification and socialization work for her. It should be noted when comfortable with her owner, Zena allowed all handling and owner reports she has a lot of energy and is very playful.
