03/25/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I couldn’t help but sing the famous lyrics by Paul Anka, “And they called it puppy love….”. Zelda is an adorable, energetic, everything a puppy should be including gorgeous young pup surrendered by her family due to landlord issues. We’re told that she lived with 3 adults and a 7 year old child, a Pomeranian, is crate trained, gets along with all people and other dogs and is friendly and active. Even our intake staff noted that she is “very friendly”. Likely housetrained she went potty as soon as we were out the door and off we went to the park. Zelda wags her tail as we walk showing puppy enthusiasm for everything and everyone in our path. She’s a bit scattered on the leash simply because she exuberantly wants to investigate everything with which she comes in contact. Adorable! Off leash in a pen she’s happy chasing a tennis ball, or two or three, tail wagging, as she bounced from one to another and from time to time bringing one back for another toss. She sits when asked, takes treats gently and is a complete puppy delight. If you’re ready to welcome a happy, friendly, bouncy puppy into your home, offering her structure, exercise, playtime, positive based reward training and lots of love, Zelda is your girl. Ask to meet her today.
03/24/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Zelda pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (moderate). She was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Zelda was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. She took the toy and rawhide away but had soft body language. Zelda rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Zelda is an active dog she need a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation and positive reinforcement training. The behavior department feels that she can go to an experience home. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2.
