I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 05/28/2015 from NY 11225, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

Yosemite Sam came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. It was reported Yosemite Sam was nervous and tense during intake. During SAFER Yosemite Sam came into the assessment room calm, sensitivity he was a bit tense, tag-interaction he followed the assessor with his body soft, when the first paw squeeze was attempted he quickly pulled back his paw and on the second paw squeeze he moves his paw away from the assessor. Food item his body was stiff and didn’t lift his head when the assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek, toy and rawhide his showed no interest. In light of this behavior, the behavior department feels Yosemite Sam is suitable for an experience adopter with no small children who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed and ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, his tail between his legs, ears are forward. His body is stiff. Dog does not lift his head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Yosemite Sam is social and is sexually motivated when interacting. He is interested in engaging with another dog and explores the yard.

When off leash with other dogs Yosemite Sam is initially nervous but will warm up when with a solicitous but respectful female. He will engage in brief bouts of play. 5/30 update: Yosemite Sam is social and playful with both males and females. He will solicit play with bows and is bouncy, although maintains a stiff body throughout the interaction. He is tolerant of mounting. 5/31 Update Yosemite Sam is social and is sexually motivated when interacting. He is interested in engaging with another dog and explores the yard 6/1 Update Yosemite Sam is not interested in play and does not reciprocate when solicited for play. He is tolerant and explores his surroundings. 6/2 Update Yosemite Sam does well with a social male and is tolerant when solicited for play but does not reciprocate play 6/3 Update Yosemite Sam is a polite greeter and a bit sexually motivated. 6/4 update: Yosemite Sam will engage in brief bouts of play with both males and females. 6/5 update: Yosemite Sam is social, greets other dogs politely and may become sexually motivated with some female dogs. 6/7 Update Yosemite Sam is slightly sexually motivated but is generally polite and tolerant when engaging with both males and females.
