04/10/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: As the old song goes, “to know, know, know York, is to love, love love York….” OK, it didn’t go quite like that but that’s simply because this awesome dog hadn’t yet entered the world to be sung about. Well he’s here now and we are caroling his praises far and wide so his lucky forever family will get the message–an unbelievably wonderful and incredible dog is waiting for you!!! He is soft as a rabbit, walks like a dream, has the patience of a saint (he waited hours for his walk without complaint, despite appearing house trained) and the spirit of a fun-loving guy. He is, above all, gentle. When you stop to sit he does that great lean-in to have his ears scratched and his chin rubbed and if you didn’t say it was time to go, he would sit like that, all curled up with you, until dinner time. This dog will fill your heart with so much love you may have to get a new one. Come meet York–happiness awaits! Another volunteer writes: This guy is so cute. York has a nice healthy soft coat on him. He jumps straight up in happiness on our walk which makes me laugh, but he doesn’t jump on me. He sits very well for treats so I have no doubt he can be taught to express his happiness in other ways than his excited jump. When we got to the park he stared out at the field and looked back at me as if to ask, “Can we go out there and play” I got down and pet him on his chest and told him “some day soon you will buddy.” Make York your buddy.
04/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
York walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. York did a lot of jumping up, body checking and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. York was not interested in toys or rawhide. York approached other dog with friendly/playful body language. York show a bit of concern during the tag interaction grabbing at the leash but wasn’t difficult to distracted him. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog in play position. His mouth is open.
