Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Yankee was brought to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was friendly upon intake, immediately accepted treats from admissions counselor’s hand and attempting to give kisses. Yankee allowed all handling for scanning, collaring, photograph. He walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. Yankee held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body soft. He leaned in during Sensitivity item, body soft, tail neutral. Yankee followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. He settled immediately when game ended. Yankee did not pull back his paw during both Squeeze attempts. He allowed the Food dish to be pulled away from him, but tried to bite the hand when it attempted to push his cheeks out of the Food bowl. Other than this one resource he was comfortable with all handling and friendly. He had minimal interest in Toy and Rawhide. Yankee approached helper dog at a comfortable pace, ears relaxed and tail at spine level, slight wag. Due to his reaction during Food item, Yankee must be placed with one of our New Hope Partners that can provide positive behavior modifications if additional guarding manifests in a home environment. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds.
