04/18/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/18/15 20:26 NAME Xena REASON FOR SURRENDER Owner moved away and did not take Xena along. RELATIONSHIP Xena was left at a family member’s house about 2 weeks ago. She is currently about 10 months. She scanned positive for a microchip. PEOPLE She was in a home with 2 adults. He has interacted with a 3 year old child and she was usually very playful around him. When she played she was either gentle or exuberant. She barks and growls when strangers approach her house, and she is friendly and greets them when they approach her owner. She has not bitten anyone. OTHER ANIMALS She has lived with a 4 year old Chihuahua and she was usually playful around him and when she played with him she was somewhat rough simply because of her size. She has not otherwise interacted with other animals and she has not bitten any other animals. PERSONALITY She is a very active indoor only dog who has been described as playful, affectionate, sometimes mellow, sometimes pushy, confident, excitable, anxious, and friendly. She isn’t bothered if you touch her food bowl while she is eating, if you take away a treat or a toy, if you move her off the furniture (she usually just gets back on), or if you disturb her while she is sleeping. She loves being petted and she especially loves receiving belly rubs. She is friendly when you have to hold or restrain her. When her family is home, she loves to run around the house. She eats dry and wet food and she likes soft chewy treats. She usually sleeps in the living room. TRAINING She knows “put it down,” which means to sit. She is not yet house-trained and does have accidents daily which consist of urinating and defecating indoors. It should be noted that she wasn’t taken for walks or given piddle pads to go to the bathroom on. She has not been crate-trained. MEDICAL She appears to have cherry eye. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE She was very sweet during the intake. She had a soft wiggly body and a wagging tail. She was eager to be petted and would roll over to have her belly rub. She allowed handling and showed no signs of aggression.

A volunteer writes: Xena’s owner left and never returned….Not knowing where he or she was, Xena’s dog sitter had to bring her to the care center. She has only great things to say about this adorable tiny little girl who is just a puppy at ten months of age. She was very playful with the inhouse 3 year old child and the 4 year old Chihuahua. Wary at first of strangers, she would welcome them once they were close to her owners. She is described as a very friendly, affectionate and playful pup with absolutely no handling issues. Xena is a bit shy and submissive. She is quick to roll on her side or her back. She seems to be on her guards and freezes when someone or another dog approaches but once they are close, she is all wiggly, tail wagging and plops herself to the ground. Xena is so pretty and petite, a little grey mouse. She does have a cherry eye that will need medical attention. She walks nicely on the leash, eliminated during each of our walks but according to her former caretaker, she is not yet housetrained. She is a great lap dog and a major kisser. She can sit on command and even give paw…Xena is basically an adorable youngster. She will probably never grow very big…Come and meet her at the Manhattan Care Center. I know she will make a wonderful and loving forever best friend.
