06/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/24/15 20:04 Animal’s appearance – dog appeared clean and of healthy weight. Animal’s demeanor with you – dog was friendly and soliciting attention. His tail was wagging and he was alert and responsive. He allowed me to pet him and he jumped to lick my face, however he did not want to allow me to scan him. But he was non-aggressive. Finder stated that she found the dog in front her home. The dog was just standing there. She stated that this happened late in the day and she knew she could not get here before the shelter closed so she kept the dog for the night. Finder stated that the dog is a good dog however he seems not to like other dogs because he did not get along with her personal dog.
07/06/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Xander is one handsome dude!!!! Brought to the shelter as a stray, Xander looks well cared for and was once someone’s dog. Xander is a bit shy and cocks his head sideways when I approach his kennel. He had been watching me tend to the other dogs. He backs away but then figures I’m ok so he allows leashing and off we go. He is a big boy with a lot of energy (like most 2 year olds) and shows his fun playful side while we are out. When it’s time to return to the kennel he goes in without any trouble and gives me this look like “What? Thats it?” and he makes this face that make crinkles form between his eyes. They look like worry lines. Well, that completely melted my heart. Come to Staten Island ACC and meet him. Another volunteer writes: I had the pleasure of seeing Xander while he participated in playgroup with Hazel, another Staten Island ACC dog. He and her were having so much fun playing in the kiddie pool. Splashing and running; Xander actually rolls over in the pool and then runs out, rolls in the dirt and back into the pool, all the while playing with Hazel. They had me in stitches!!!! Xander absolutely loves water and playtime with his doggie friends. Xander is the shelter’s version of the class clown. What a fun dog!!! Please come to Staten Island ACC and meet Xander.

Xander came to our center when a member of the public foun him as a stray. Xander pulled slightly on leash for his relief walk. he was social, very loose and wiggly throughout entire SAFER assessment. Xander was focused on other stimuli during any tactile handling, sniffing assessor’s pants and surrounding area. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, fast wag,. Xander accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, body soft. He was a bit distracted during Tag game, displaying high energy and movement, but responded to each pass by cautiously turning towards hand.Xander did not pull his paw back during both Squeeze attempts. he had minimal interest in Food, licking a few times but flinched at approaching assess-a-hand and then would not reapproach Food dish. Xander playfully engaged with Toy, offering play bows to assessor and assistant, firm grip, very loose, wiggly body and wagging tail. Xander needed to trade up in order to relinquish Toy. He kept a firm grip on Rawhide, loose, wiggly body. The Behavior Team feels Xander would do well in an Average home.
