04/29/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our handsome brindle boy keeps one ear up….perhaps listening for the words of Walt Whitman after whom he was named? Or, waiting for radio signals from Mars? Or, listening for his new family who must be right around the corner? Personally, I like the last option the best, as this gorgeous boy was clearly well taken care of before joining us. His weight is good for his size, he may be housetrained, and while he pulls a bit on the leash I think it’s his uncertainty as to where his family is that causes it. He looks up at every person we pass, probably saying to himself, “I wonder if this will be my new daddy?” Alert to all the new sounds, he holds his head up to listen to the birds chirp and all the noises from the street heard from our pen. He wags his tail in friendship at a dog on the other side of the gate, and in his first group he kept mostly to himself with some interaction with others. Joining me on the bench for some hugs, it’s clear that Whitman is looking for a bond with a new person. Not interested in playing ball, or enjoying a treat right now, Whitman is trying to make the best out of a new situation and doing admirably. He’s handsome, alert, affectionate and at 3 years old ready to settle down with his new family. Won’t you stop by to meet him today?
