11/04/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Virginia is for lovers! Lovers of a dog with a big (beautiful!) head and short legs. Lovers of a dog that is easy to handle on leash and seems housebroken. Lovers of a dog that doesn’t seem to know many commands, but will stand on her hind legs and try anything she can to get a treat. Lovers of a dog that greets the puppy on the pen to her left with a wiggly tail and a motherly eye, and the boisterous dog on the pen to her right that paws at her through the gate with tolerance and the same waggy tail. Lovers of a dog that will prop her paws on you to solicit petting, make soft eye contact, and lick your face. Lovers of a dog that is curious about her surroundings, but mostly just happy to have company. Lovers of a dog that shows fleeting interest in tennis balls and sort of awkwardly throws herself at them. Lovers of a dog that has fed so many puppies she has udders that make a flapping noise when she walks. Lovers of a dog that has been used by some people, but doesn’t hold that against any that she encounters. Lovers of a dog that nearly howls when you put her back in her cage and is so charismatic and sweet you almost feel like doing the same when you’re apart! Virginia is looking for someone to love her, please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC and see if it might be you!
10/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Virginia came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Virginia was friendly with her tail wagging, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Virginia came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly, social, affectionate and attention seeking, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Virginia follows the handler with her body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Virginia was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Virginia appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1.
