08/12/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A0924719 Venus came into the care center as a owner surrender, but was surrendered with limited information. When approaching Venus in the kennel, she gave a low growl, but was easily removed and walked calmly on the leash. During SAFER Venus was a bit shy, but remained close to the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue, and was a bit distracted by objects in the room during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Venus only had minimal interest for the food, and was not interested in the toys or rawhides. During the dog-dog interaction, Venus approached the helper dog with a stiff body posture, and growled when close. Venus can be fearful of new situations, and may need time to adjust. Venus also displayed some discomfort when around other dogs and will growl, so the department feels Venus will likely do best with an experienced adopter with no other dogs, and it is also recommended that introductions are done slowly and Venus be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft and a bit distracted. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 1. Minimal interest in food, dog licks, then turn away. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 4. Dog approaches the helper dog with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect and growls.
