12/01/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Gems are often showcased in velvet boxes and I can see our Velvet’s soft and silky coat wrapping a diamond of a dog… Velvet does not seem to have had a very clement life. She is skin and bones, hungry as a bear, her nails are long, calluses adorn her legs and her eyes are already so cloudy at the young age of 3…Food and treats drive her moves and create a bond between us. Velvet is not all about survival, though. She has the knowledge of what it is to be a pet. She sits on command like a good girl, comes when I call her, never forgetting to wag her tail and she settles on the lap, giving very profuse kisses…She does not walk but prances on the leash, eliminates on the way and nears other dogs uneventfully. I was told that she enjoys the company of her peers in paygroups although is a little wary of the very big ones..Well, Velvet is a speckle of a pooch…I can understand that she would prefer meeting dogs her size…Velvet did not have the best start in life…Her coming to the care center might be the opportunity for her to meet …you and start on the right foot this time a healthy and happy new journey. Velvet is at the Manhattan Care Center. Another volunteer writes: There are TV series about doctors, lawyers, business people and even ice truck drivers, always spiced up with some love stories….We need tales about shelter dogs and cats! We have romance going on right now, right here at the Manhattan Care Center, between handsome Hogan and tiny Velvet. Those two really love each other and are beautiful to watch in playgroups, so happy to meet and share thoughts. They are housed in adjacent dens and who knows…they might have sweet conversations at bedtime…Velvet feels so much better. Her once infected eyes are healing, she gained weight, her coat is shiny and silvery and food is not her focus anymore. She is sociable, friendly, quite affectionate and really nice with other dogs, little ones included. We all love Velvet, a sweet and gentle gal who did not have it easy until she came to the care center. We think that she is ready for her entry in the big world of spoiled and beloved forever best friends. Do come and meet her. She is a really good girl who will bring live and happiness into your life..
