07/27/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Van was not well when he arrived at the care center. He was so weak that he had to be carried. The veterinary team attended to him and Van is now as good as new, playing and socializing in playgroups with other dogs…Van is quite a cutie…He is rather petite at ten months of age, a bit thin but dressed in a beautiful, well groomed and shiny tuxedo. He is playful, likes the game of tag, is a little mouthy when really provoked and loves treats. He can sit on command and even does his business in the yard. Of course, I can not guarantee that he is housetrained. Van seems to like other dogs very much and play bows to them, hoping, may be that they will cross the gate…He is without say, a great lap dog, being the puppy he truly is…Cuddle, cuddle, cuddle…Van just loves that. Van needs a caring and loving master who knows that bringing up a young dog means time, patience and commitment…Van is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to be your new student and forever best friend.
07/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Van came to our center as a stray on 7/22/2015. He was quiet, calm, and friendly during intake, showing no aggression. Van allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft. He leaned in during Sensitivity item, tail fast wagging. Van played and jumped along for Tag game, chewing rope and vocalizing at the end of game, taking a minute to release leash and settle down. Van lifted his head out of the Food bowl once assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek. He was playful with Toy, keeping a firm grip with loose, wiggly body. Van took Rawhide away, body stiff, then growled at approaching assess-a-hand. When off leash with other dogs, Van is social, greets the other dog politely and eventually attempts to solicit play. Due to his potential possessiveness regarding Rawhide, the Behavior Team feels Van would do best in an Experienced home with No Children. He may benefit from learning the ‘drop it’ command and trade up games. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth, fast wag. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins, chews leash and vocalizes at end. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not pull paw back, sniffs and licks hand. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 4. Dog take Rawhide away, growls. dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Van is social, greets the other dog politely and eventually attempts to solicit play.
