He has interacted with many children, and he is usually very playful around them. He can be gentle, exuberant, or somewhat rough when he plays and it depends on how the child is playing with him. He usually barks when strangers approach the house, and when strangers approach his owner he either isn’t bothered or he barks, it depends on how the person approaches. He has never bitten anyone. OTHER ANIMALS He has interacted with other dogs, and he is usually very playful. Depending on how the other other dog is playing, he can be gentle, exuberant, or somewhat rough. He is house-trained and he rarely has accidents. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE He was very nervous at first. His tail was tucked and his eyes were wide and he was trembling. He growled during scanning, but he eventually settled down.
04/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tyson Gray was a family dog since tender puppyhood. Six years down the line, suddenly, he is surrendered into our care for reasons unclear to us. A new child appeared in the house. Did Tyson Gray growl? Did he play too rough? Was he too big and scary? We do not know. Tyson Gray comes with glowing comments, though. Good and playful with children of all ages, dog friendly too, welcoming or tolerant of strangers, very sweet, loving, active and well mannered in general. Nice with cats and frequenting daily the doggies playground. We are told he prefers not to be disturbed when he eats. Tyson Gray has been well cared for. He does have entropion but his weight and coat are perfect. He looks so gentle in his kennel and licks my hand through his door. He is leashed without fuss and walks like a breeze around the block. He is so house trained, no marking involved. We meet other dogs, big and small. Tyson Gray is totally fine with them. Free in a pen, he stays mostly next to me, comes when I call him, sits immediately on command and takes treats very delicately from my hand. Tyson Gray is one gentle and sweet dog who closes his eyes when I caress him….I really enjoyed my time with him because he is so calm, attentive and well-behaved. Tyson Gray would most likely be an ideal companion for the person who wishes for a loving, low-key although still active friend, buddy and confidante. Tyson Gray is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting to meet…you.
04/13/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tyson Gray came to our center as an owner surrender due to a family member’s allergies. It is reported he lived with a young child and has interacted with many children. It is also reported he has interacted with other dogs, and once with a cat. His behavior with the cat was described by his previous owner as “usually respectful or very tolerant”. He was very nervous during intake, keeping his tail low and he was trembling. He growled when he was scanned for microchip. It is reported that Tyson Gray would growl in the family home if food or toys were taken away. Tyson Gray was very focused on other stimuli in the yard, sniffing everything. Upon entering the SAFER room he was also focused on sniffing the entire room. Several times during the assessment he also chattered his teeth. Tyson Gray kept his tail low or tucked throughout the entire assessment. He allowed his head to be cupped in the assessor’s hands and had no issue with Sensitivity item. During Squeeze, Tyson Gray displayed a low growl so the remainder of Squeeze item was moved to flank where he gave no response. Tyson Gray showed no interest in food at all, and showed minimal interest in toy and rawhide. He approached the helper dog for Dog-to-Dog item with his tail low and ears neutral. The Behavior Team feels Tyson Gray would do best in an Experienced home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail down and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in low position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 4. Dog growls. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Food: No interest Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog submissively (head low, tail low, ears back, lip long).
