Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tyson previously lived with two adults and has been around children ages 2 and 6 years old, but the owner stated Tyson has never been to close to the children but he is very respectful and tolerant. The owner also stated Tyson is relaxed, playful and respectful towards everyone in the household as well as other dogs. Tyson was said to have a high activity level and his owner best described him as playful, pushy, mellow and friendly. It was also mentioned that Tyson pulls hard on the leash and can be hard to control when on walks, so a gentle leader is recommended. Tyson was reported to be housebroken and he is crate trained. During SAFER Tyson was not very attention seeking, but he was receptive to attention when given. He was often distracted by his surroundings, but was relaxed during some of the handling items. During the tag interaction, Tyson was easily over aroused and made several attempts to grab the leash while body checking the assessor. When the game ended Tyson remained stiff and continuously made attempts to bite the leash and could not be distracted. Due to this behavior paw handling was not tested at this time. Tyson also showed some concerns during the food item; stiffening and growling when being pushed out of the food bowl. He only showed minimal interest in the toys items, and was not interested in the rawhides. Due the concerns seen at the time of assessment, the department feels placement with a New Hope partner is recommend, so the behaviors seen can be more fully explored before adoption into a Permanent home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor while attempting to grab the leash. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide dog may sniffs, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Tyson is highly sexually motivated. He takes correction but is unable to focus on any other type of interaction.
