If he encounters a cat on his walk be becomes alert but does not react. Trooper is resistant to bathing but owner says he allows it. His nails are not trimmed but his walks keep the length down. Trooper will guard his food from a stranger by growling but owner says he can remove his food. When the owner does this he says Trooper will watch him do this. Trooper likes to play tugging games with his toys. Trooper does is not allowed on beds and couches in the home. He does like a bear hug for handling. 11/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Trooper came to us as an owner surrender on 11/23/15. It was reported by the owner that Trooper has lived with 2 adults and is said to be tolerant and playful with children. Owner stated that Trooper will sometimes guard members of the family and will growl at people who try to approach them. In addition, Trooper is said to guard his food as well from strangers but not from the owner. Trooper was very nervous leaving his kennel with a trembling body and tucked tail. He maintained this body language until outside where he was able to relieve himself and relax a bit. When entering the behavior room Trooper was very interested in exploring the environment but maintained tense and fearful body language. When the assessor tried to adjust Trooper’s collar Trooper became very stiff and froze. Due to this reaction from Trooper no other handling items were performed. He proved easy to handle chewing on the toy item, mouthing it firmly with loose body language. The behavior department recommends placement with a rescue that can follow up on these behaviors and provide and positive behavior modification necessary before placement into a home. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. When off leash with other dogs, Trooper greets politely and is tolerant of solicitation but does not engage in play.
