08/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Named after my favorite snack cracker, I couldn’t wait to meet little Triscuit. It was love at first bite – I mean sight. She’s an itty bitty thing, quiet, reserved, calm and gentle. She is every adjective you can think of that is sweet, loving, soft and gentle. I leashed her easily and she gently stepped out of her kennel and out the door. Going potty immediately indicates she’s probably housetrained, and showing off her lovely leash manners we walked to the park. Her tail wags gently as we walk, and we stop to take some pictures. She’s a pro! She makes soft eye contact, takes her reward treats gently and has all the patience in the world as I snap away. We cuddle and I can feel some scratches under her neck and can see them on her face. It looks like she walked through a thorny rose bush :(. As we came back to the building I stopped to chat with a staff member, and she waited quietly, eventually lying down to wait us out. What a good girl! Off leash in the back she waited quietly for me when I left the pen for a few minutes, sitting in the middle of the pen to wait. Another staff person came in to talk to her, and she lay down to enjoy some petting. I gave her a bath as she was a bit dirty and she was a gem! She stood quietly while I lathered her up and hosed her down, and then snuggled her in some warm towels Miss Triscuit is being fed an extra meal each day as she’s too skinny and we’re fattening her up a bit. She’s an awesome little lady who did very well on her behavior assessment, but needs an experienced adopter who will understand that she will warm up and be comfortable on her own timetable. She’s a star, a gentle, soft little biscuit who will make a wonderful addition to a new family. Are you the lucky one?
08/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Triscuit was quiet and calm when entering the assessment but was nervous, after being given a moment to warm up she approached the assessor with a soft body and tried to stay close. She remained a bit fearful and nervous throughout the assessment but would approach the assessor with little to no coaxing necessary. She was a bit fearful when playing tag with the assessor but approached the assessor with a soft body once movement ceased. Triscuit was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had neutral body language. She had no interest in toys and minimal interest in rawhide. Triscuit was brought to the care center as a stray. Throughout the assessment Triscuit remained shy and a bit nervous but would approach the assessor at her own will with a soft body and allowed all handling to be completed. The Behavior Department recommends that due to her fearful nature at this time, Truscuit would do best in an experienced adopter advises that should be able to provide positive experiences for Triscuit. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Triscuit be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted.
