08/08/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tigger’s family lost their home, so he, of course, lost everything he knows. Lying up front in his kennel, he trembles with the newness of this all, a big brindle boy who’s clearly uncomfortable without his family. He lets me leash him and out we go. His leash manners are good as he walks calmly down the street. Off leash in a pen he explores, isn’t interested in my treats, and eventually sits near me putting his head in my lap. He wants to be friendly but is shy and unsure. We’re told that he lived with his family since birth, is relaxed, gently playful and respectful of children, tolerant and respectful of cats, knows ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘come’ and ‘stay’ and is active. We’re not seeing the ‘real’ Tigger at the moment, as he’s stressed by this upheaval in his life. He’s been gorgeously taken care of and is looking for a new family to call his own. Tigger needs a chance to find a new family to take care of…..This stunning brindlicious boy is hoping you’ll give him that chance.
08/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Trigger walks with a fearful body language. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Trigger was shy and nervous and trembled during handling, with stiff body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Trigger was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Trigger approaches helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is somewhat fearful and is offering signs of submission. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. We advise that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Trigger .In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Trigger be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2.
