Young and handsome Trampas is with us as his master was injured and became unable to care for him. He comes with outstanding recommendations. A loyal, well mannered, playful, house trained and crate trained companion….Trampas seems a little skittish in his kennel.Take him out and he is a very different dog. He walks beautifully on the leash, relieves himself without marking and meets in a very civil way other dogs. He comes right away when called, sits on command and for treats(he takes them very politely), gives paw…and settles very close to me for caresses. Trampas is a beauty. His coat, shining under the sunlight, is quite exotic, mixing a variety of patterns. He has been so well cared for … He is not shy, never avoids my eyes, and really loves to be in company. That is really where he belongs, next to his person or family, a pet who knows what love and good behavior are and what is expected from him. Stunning and elegant Trampas is ready to start a new page in his life … with you, as a forever best friend. Come and meet him soon at the Manhattan Care Center.
Name: Trampas
REASON FOR SURRENDER: Owner was recently injured and can no longer take care of Trampas
RELATIONSHIP: Trampas’s previous owner found him as a stray in an abandoned building about 2 months ago. He is currently about 2 years old. He scanned positive for a microchip.
PEOPLE: He lived in a home with 2 adults. He has only interacted with children while passing and owner stated he was gentle and curious. She also stated that when she first found him that he was very friendly and excited when visitors came over, but that recently she is only able to have visitors come in if she is in the back room with him as he has become somewhat protective of her and occasionally barks, lunges, and nips at people who come near her. He has not actually bitten anyone.
OTHER ANIMALS: He has interacted with other dogs while at the park and owner states that he is very playful and that when he plays, he is gentle or exuberant. He has not bitten any other animals
PERSONALITY: He is a moderately active mostly indoor dog who has been described as playful, energetic, confident, excitable, anxious, mellow, and friendly. He likes playing with balls and chew bones and he loves to chase. He isn’t bothered if you touch his food bowl while he is eating, if you move him off the furniture, if you give him a bath, or if you touch his paws. If you try to take a treat away, he doesn’t let go, but he doesn’t show any signs of aggression. He is friendly when you take a toy away or if you brush him for short periods of time. He follows his owner around when home. He eats Natural Balance dry food. He loves all treats.
TRAINING: He knows sit, down (sometimes), give paw, heel, and wait. He is house-trained and is taken for walks or to the dog park 3 times daily. When at the park, he comes when called. He is well-behaved when in the house alone. He did bark and whine for the first few days. He is crate-trained and does well up to 7 hours, he also sleeps in his crate.
BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE: He was mostly relaxed during the first part of the intake. When offered treats he allowed me to scan and pet him. When I tried to collar him he did growl at me. When client left he did bark and whine. He otherwise showed no signs of aggression.BEHAVIOR:
Trampas pull a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Trampas was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Trampas was not interested in toys or rawhide. He was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful.Trampas did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
