08/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tommy came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on his past behaviors in a home. At intake it was noted that Tommy was sociable towards the counselors, and allowed all handling. During SAFER Tommy was also sociable towards the assessor, but occasionally became more interested in sniffing the room. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue, and was distracted by objects in the room during the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Tommy was a bit resistant when pushed out of the food bowl, but his body was soft. He only showed minimal interest for the toy items, and was not interested in the rawhides. Tommy appears to be social, and has not displayed any behavioral concerns while in the care center. The department feels Tommy can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash Tommy is tolerant of interaction from other dogs, and he is polite when greeting. Tommy may be sexually motivated.
