A volunteer writes: I’ve been watching this fun looking bouncy guy with staff for a couple of days and couldn’t wait to meet him. Not only is he unique looking, he has a great personality, a wiggly walk (like a puppy sways from side to side), and is so sweet and well behaved I wanted to spirit him away. Surrendered by his person because his person is ill and can no longer take care of him, this is what he had to say about his buddy: Tokyo lived with a 6 year old and was relaxed, playful and tolerant of him, is relaxed and playfully exuberant with other dogs, is “happy all the time”, knows ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘stay’, waits to be told “go” before eating, loves baths and would sit under the faucet all day if allowed, loves being brushed and getting his nails trimmed, is housetrained and well behaved when left home alone, and loves to play chase and catch and with bones and rope toys. I don’t know about you, but this is a pretty perfect resume in my opinion! Tokyo showed me most of his skills, and his adorable ‘sit’ is sidesaddle which I just love. He has a great face, great feet, takes treats gently, and hung out in my lap giving me kisses. In group play he was social, playful and gentle. Tokyo was my last walk of a long hot day and it was absolutely saving the best for last. He’s awesome and ready to prove it to you. It’s no surprise he aced his behavior assessment indicating he’ll be a good fit in just about any home. Ask to meet him today.

PROFILE:
BASIC INFO
Tokyo’s family got him as a gift from a family member when he was 6 weeks old (almost 1 year ago). His owner surrendered him due to his own health issues that inhibit him from caring for Tokyo.
SOCIALIZATION
Tokyo is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He lived with a 6 year old child and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. He played somewhat rough with adults and children, jumping up. He’s relaxed, playful, and plays exuberantly with dogs he meets outside. He’s never bit anyone.
BEHAVIOR
Tokyo has no known behavior issues. He doesn’t mind storms. He loves baths and would sit under the faucet all day. He loves being brushed. He enjoys having his nails trimmed because he likes the attention. He’s friendly with strangers that approach his home/family. He doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, wakes him up, or holds/restrains him.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Tokyo’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable, and high energy. His owner likes that he’s happy all of the time. Tokyo follows him around. He plays chase and catch and likes bones and ropes. He lived inside and slept on a dog bed. He ate dry Blue Buffalo food and enjoyed beef dog treats. He’s housetrained and doesn’t have accidents if he’s walked. He potties on any outdoor surface. His owner hasn’t been able to walk him so he’s been using wee wee pads. Tokyo is well-behaved when home alone in the house or in the yard with a 7′ fence. He was crated when he was a puppy but doesn’t need to be anymore. He knows sit, come, and stay. He waits for his owner to tell him “go” to eat. He doesn’t go on furniture. He goes for brisk walks and walks next to his owner without pulling on his leash. He plays loose at the park and wanders but comes when called.
INTAKE
Tokyo had a very loose, wiggly body, wagging tail, and open mouth during handling-scan (+), collar, petting, positioning for pictures, putting in kennel. He stood up against us and leaned against us, wiggling while we pet him.
BEHAVIOR:
Tokyo walks a bit on leash. He was calm and relaxed during handling and was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Tokyo did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides. Tokyo was relaxed when approaching a friendly dog, but was not playful.
Tokyo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Tokyo is friendly and outgoing with strangers. He lived with a 6 year old child and was relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. He played somewhat rough with adults and children, jumping up. He’s relaxed, playful, and plays exuberantly with dogs he meets outside”. Tokyo did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
