09/11/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Beauty is the first word that comes to mind when I look at Titan, a stunning young man, dressed in a strawberry blonde coat and wearing the most gorgeous and attractive pair of eyes on his face. He looks so perfect… He comes right away to his door when he sees me and would like to exit without being leashed. We juggle a little and soon enough, we leave the building. Titan is pretty good on the leash, pulls occasionally and relieves himself as we cross the street….(not the best spot to piddle). He poses very nicely for pictures. My camera loves still subjects. Back at the care center, free in a pen, Titan explores. He is a bit unfocused, jumps at sudden noises but maybe this is because he is just mixed up. A family dog yesterday, the care center today. One could easily loose it…. He gets excited when I call him for a treat or a ball. He jumps, stands on his hinds but can be redirected into sitting with a little reward. Never ever does he loose control of himself or get carried away. Titan plays ball very nicely and brings it back toward me, letting me take it out of his mouth to continue the game. He likes to be caressed and kissed. He is a friendly and affectionate pup. Titan was surrendered into our care as he was too energetic for his family lifestyle, not fully housetrained and chewing on household items when left alone in the house. Bringing up a youngster is not for everybody. It takes time, commitment, energy and belief that a silly, boisterous and naturally imperfect and immature puppy can become a stellar adult. Titan is at the Manhattan Care Center waiting for his new master and teacher. An active owner would be most welcome… Come and meet him soon.
09/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Titan pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Titan was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Titan was a bit difficult to push out of the food bowl, but had soft body language. He was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides. Titan was surrender to us. According to his previous owner describes him as: Playful, pushy, confident, excitable, affectionate, fearful, anxious and friendly. Titan has been kept indoors mostly and has a very high activity Titan has been around children ages 3yrs to 15 years old. Around them Titan is relaxed and playful. When Titan plays with children he will be exuberant and somewhat rough. Around other dogs Titan is playful and will play exuberantly. When Titan sees a cat he will bark and lunge toward them”. Because of his owner profile we recommend a home without cats. Titan appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that he would do better with an experienced adopter. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2.
