05/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Titan came to our center as an owner surrender citing no time for him. Titan pulled a bit on leash for his relief walk. He was uncomfortable with positioning for all tactile handling, flinching hard each time he was touched. Once in position, titan allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body neutral with a low wag. His body was a bit stiff during Sensitivty item, ears back, tail down, flinching at each touch. Titan was fearful during Tag, unresponsive to the assessor and spinning towards the hand at last pass. He did not approach the assessor at end of game. Due to his tenseness, Squeeze item was attempted at flank, where he flinched and sniffed assessor’s hand at both attempts. Titan ceased eating and lifted his head for Food item. He had minimal interest in Toy and Rawhide, sniffing/licking and then turning away. During dog-to-dog interaction, Titan approached a little quickly and eager to interact, tail above spine level and ears forward. He also saw a dog through the gate and wagged his tail with loose body. The Behavior Team feels Titan would do best with an Experienced adopter with no children, so he can have time to warm up and feel comfortable with tactile handling from his new family. He may also benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and basic obedience. Titan needs an environment where he will be able to relax and feel safe. He may also benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation such as walks, runs, exercise, as well as enrichment toys like Kongs and Nylabones to positively direct his energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body flinches each time touched, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 3. Dog spins toward the touch. Dog is crouching, tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff and fearful. Flank squeeze 1/2 : 1. Dog sniffs hand. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog may smell or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
