04/12/15 11:31 NAME: Titan REASON FOR SURRENDER Titan lives with another dog and they do play well with eachother, but Titan will also guard the owners from the other dog. The owners are not sure how to solve the problem and do not want either dog to be severely injured. They feel for the safety of each dog, the best option is to surrender Titan. RELATIONSHIP Titan is estimated to be 5 years of age. The owners found him as a pup abandonded in a dumpter. PEOPLE Titan has lived with adults and young children. He is friendly to people of all ages and allows everyone to handle him. The owners say that he is big and will forget his size when playing with the kids. OTHER ANIMALS The owners have a cat. Titan will be swatted at by the cat and he’ll turn his head away. He has never attacked the cat and the owners say his is scared of the cat. He lives with another male dog and they are friendly, but Titan will fight with the other dog when he is getting attention from the family members. PERSONALITY/HABITS Titan is an inside dog with a very high activity level. He will growl when you touch his food bowl while eating. When it comes to toys and bones, he will growl at his owners if they touch them because he is a vocal dog and it is in play. He likes pets, but the owners suggest he doesn’t like his ears being touched or played with and will growl at you if you do. When left unattended he will destroy furniture (dividing gate, fridge, tables, walls, and doors.) Titan likes squeaky toys and balls and loves to go outside with his people. TRAINING He will sit for treats and knows “excuse me” means to move out of the way. MEDICAL There are no known medical issues at this time. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Titan was very energetic, loose, and attention seeking at intake. Titan approached the counselor and allowed all pets and handling. His body was soft and he wagged his tail often. He sat for treats and was very easy collar, scan, and photograph.
Titan chatters his teeth at you (not so much a submissive grin) just in a playful way. He remains loose and wagging his tail.
Intake info:
I was sitting at the front desk when the client’s father came in and said he has a dog that he wants to turn in. I asked if it was his dog or one he found. He said it’s people in the building and mumbled a few sentences saying that they were talking about leaving him tied up outside so someone else might take him. I asked what the reason for that was and he responded that he is a vicious dog and attacks the children and people and other dogs. I walked outside with the man to take a look at the dog and he was in the car with his tongue hanging out. The man opened the door and the dog jumped out. His body was loose and his tail was wagging.
He jumped on the man several times to greet him. I crouched down to say hi and he rushed to me showing his teeth, but keeping a loose body and wagging his tail. I stood up and backed away and saw his face from a distance amd realized that he was chatteering his teeth at me, not showing them as a warning sign. I said since his is nice and approachable we can all go in to the office. There was a female in the car and she is the one that did the paperwork (the client Collisa). The man that initally came in is her farther. When we got into the room I asked if this is their dog and they said yes. THey are surrendering him due to his behavior. After discussing it, I found out that the dog is resource guarding his people from the other dog- but only at certan times. They will play with doggie toys together, but when they both want attenetion, Titan will growl and snap at the other “full pit” (male) in the home ( I assume the other male isn’t altered because neither is Titan) and then the other dog will growl and snap and then it esclates into a fight. Sometimes they can break it up other times it ends when the other pit in the home “gets him (Titan) good”. The dog has redirected on the owners several times in the past, but not within the new year. The dogs will also play well with eachother and can share toys. Titan will resource his bowl from the other dog, but will not take the other dog’s food. He also low growls at the owners when the try and take food away, but it has never esclated. The owners found him as pup.

04/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Titan previously lived with adults and young children, and was reported to be friendly towards people of all ages. He allows everyone to handle him, but doesn’t like his ears being touched and has been reported to growl. Titan was said to be tolerant of the cat that he lived with, and he also lived another male dog that he was friendly towards, but has been reported to guard the owners from the other dog. He was said to have a very high activity level and when left unattended the owner stated he has destroyed household items. It was also mentioned that Titan will growl when you touch his food bowl while eating. At intake it was noted that Titan was very energetic, loose, and attention seeking, allowing all handling by the Admissions Counselor. During SAFER Titan was sociable when greeting the assessor, but became stiff and uncomfortable during the handling items. Titan was also stiff during the tag interaction and mouthed the rope, but was easy to calm down. He was not interested in the toys or rawhide items, and when being pushed out of the food bowl he became stiff and growled. Due to the discomfort displayed during the handling items and the information provided by the previous owner, the department feels Titan would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 4. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand with a very fast head movement. If able, he muzzle punches the hand. His body is stiff and he has a closed mouth with a short lip. Tag: 3. Dog responds with her tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and mouths the rope. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Food: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Titan is generally tolerant when greeting but shows some conflicting behavior. When interacting, he is bouncy as if interested in play, but his body is stiff with ears back and has a flagging tail.
