08/06/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Beautiful, gentle Tinka has stolen my heart so completely that it’s hard to know where to start when singing her praises, in my eyes she is an angel! The perfect pet, playmate and snuggle buddy, Tinka is a supermodel with a heart of gold and her amazing good looks are wonderfully matched by a quiet, affectionate nature that would melt even the hardest of hearts. She’s a somberly beautiful girl who rarely smiles, yet her eyes and body language speak volumes. Whether joyfully play-bowing over a ball, rough housing with other dogs in playgroup or softly laying herself across my lap for belly rubs, Tinka puts her heart and soul into every moment. She’s only just out of puppyhood yet very well behaved and walks quite nicely on leash, does all her business outdoors and is always keen to run over when called, sit on command or relinquish her toy without a fuss. And when it comes to snuggles you couldn’t ask for a more grateful or devoted companion, given the chance I think we would have laid in each others arms for hours! Tinka scored highly on her behavior evaluation, acing everything from resource sharing to doggie socialization, and she’d make a wonderful addition to any experienced home where TLC is in plentiful supply. A golden girl with so much to give, all Tinka asks in return is to be safe and loved. Ask to meet Tinka at our Manhattan Care Center and start enjoying your own little slice of heaven today! Another Volunteer writes: Is Tinka short for Tinkerbell? She’ll definitely grant your wish for a super sweet, friendly dog. Great on the leash, Tinka seemed at ease on our walk. Warning – you will be powerless against her doe eyes and forehead wrinkles, which are the cutest I’ve seen in a long time. Tinka has a beautiful caramel coat and seems like she was well-taken care of not long ago. Give Tinka her fairy wings to fly out of the shelter and into her forever home with you!
08/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tinka walks calmly on leash. She was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Tinka was shy and nervous and trembled during handling, with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Tinka did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. She was easy to handle when chewing on toys. Tinka took the rawhide away but had soft body language. Tinka is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Tinka. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Tinka be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Tinka is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment. We also recommend a home without children. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. When off leash with other dogs, Tinka greets well. She is playful and will engage in rough, mouthy play.
