12/20/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I met Timberland today. True that he does not like his kennel.. Who does, really and if one has been used to roam in a large area, even less….Once out, on the leash, Timberland is a very different dog. He keeps a serious look on his face, cropped ears not helping but complies nicely to orders. Sit down, come here, take food properly….Timberland walks well, seems very much house trained and marks a lot his territory as an un-neutered male. He is a bit aloof but is fine with being embellished with a scarf or getting caresses. He is quite good looking, healthy beside a tiny cold and wears a nice golden coat. A young man with so many calluses makes me wonder where he might have been housed, not an LLBean dog bed… Well, I like Timb. He looks a bit tough and might need some “gentleman” training but it is doable in the right hands. Will you give this boy a chance. He is waiting and counting on you at the Manhattan Care Center
12/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Timberland pulls a bit on the leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Timberland did a lot of jumping up and body checking while playing tag. He was not interested in toys. Timberland show a bit of concern during the tag interaction he became a bit over arousal. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Timberland initially displays sexually motivated behavior, then begins to mimic play behaviors and engages briefly with the female helper.
