08/05/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Mr. Tigga is a soft old soul. Adopted from us a few years ago and surrendered as his person lost his home, we’re told that he’s friendly, affectionate and playful with a low activity level; he’s never met a stranger as everyone becomes a friend, he’s been with kids 3 and 6 years old, lived playfully with a female pit bull and is friendly to cats. He’s scared of storms and fireworks, is “very housetrained” and well behaved when left home alone. He knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’ and ‘lay down’. Waiting for me quietly in his kennel, his sweet eyes met mine as he wagged his tail at his anticipated outing. Using the ‘facilities’ endlessly as soon as we were out the door showed off his housetraining skills, and his ‘sit’ for a treat is flawless. Mr. T takes his treats gently and think mini vac for the sensation he creates on my hand. Too cute. We’re also told he loves baths and to be brushed, and he loved my running my hands down the length of his back as he cuddled his head in my lap. As a staff person gave him some treats from outside the gate she became his new best friend, and when she left he watched her leave, tail wagging gently and then drooping when she was out of sight. I fell in love with Mr. Tigga, from his softly wagging tail, his head in my lap, his age callouses on his pressure points, his half hearted chase of a tennis ball….his soft and knowing eyes. Mr. T’s owner must have thought it would be fun to teach his dog an attack command, and for that reason only, this sweet boy is available via rescue only. We know the words and of course aren’t going to test it, but personally I can’t imagine him being anything but the sweet, gentle and easy dog I met. Mr. Tigga deserves a chance to live out the rest of his life surrounded by love, in a warm soft bed, and a hand to stroke his back.
08/04/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mr. Tigga walks calmly on leash. He may be house trained – toileted immediately when taken outside. Mr. Tigga was sociable toward the handler soft body, wagging tail but he became stiff and uncomfortable with handling. He was stiff during paw handling and we decided to use the flank squeeze instead. Mr. Tigga did a lot of jumping up and body checking while playing tag. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Mr. Tigga was not interested in toys or rawhide. He approaches the helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, lip long. Mr. Tigga was surrender to us. According to his previous owner around strangers, Mr. Tigga is very friendly and outgoing. He has been around children the ages of 6 years old and 3 years old. Around strangers, he is playful and relaxed. He plays gently with adults. He has lived with a female pit bull. He plays exuberantly with the female. He has been around cats and is friendly with cats. Mr. Tigga is not bothered by having his food bowl, treats or toys away. The owner mentioned that Mr Tigga knows an attack command (watch ’em) he said the command in the lobby and the dog did not react to it”.
