Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tico previously lived with 3 adults, and his owner described him as playful and alert. The owner also reports he does not do well with cats, but on walks he was reported to be loose and playful to dogs he meets. Tic was also reported to be housebroken and does not have accidents inside. It was mentioned that Tico can be shy for bathing but not defensive, and he does not guard his food toys or treats. Upon intake it was noted that Tico was nervous for introduction, with a tense body, lowered head, tucked tail and trembling, but was easily re-assured and receptive to petting and became loose for all handling. During SAFER Tico was a bit shy upon entry to the assessment room, but quickly warmed up to the assessor and was sociable. He was relaxed for all handling items, and became playful during the tag interaction. During the resource portions of the assessment, Tico was not interested in the food and rawhides, and only showed minimal interest in the toys. The department feels Tico can be suitable for an “Average” experienced adopter that understands that Tico can be shy during introductions so we recommend that introductions are done slowly and allow him the opportunity to interact at his own pace.
