08/19/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1047767 Tiara came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on her past behaviors in a home. Upon intake it was noted that Tiara was cautious for introduction and semi tense for handling, but she was easily picked up and allowed petting. During SAFER Tiara was fearful and trembled when interacting with the assessor, but allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Due to Tiaras medical condition “tag” was not conducted at this time. During the resources portion of the assessment Tiara was not interested in any of the resources items, and when approaching the helper dog during the dog-dog interaction Tiara had a loose body posture and appeared to be interested in interacting, but was not playful. Tiara can be fearful of new situations, but did not display any concerning behaviors when handled by the assessor. The department feels Tiara can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience, and it is recommended that introductions are done slowly, and Tiara be given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. Look: 2. Dog’s holds gaze. Her body posture is low and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body soft and trembles, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
