06/24/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/24/15 13:46hrs Thatcher alllowed for Admissions to leash her without incident. While being walked into the Admission’s Office, she walked with her tail between her legs and her head low. She did not growl or behave aggressively like the Police Officers initially stated about her. She allowed for admissions to collar her and when touched had soft, wiggly body. When given treats would sniff and take gently from hand. When approached too quickly would have tail tucked between legs and would retreat slightly but after a moment would have soft relaxed body again.
07/09/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Thatcher is a beauty, inside and out, and while she may be all grown up she’s still petite and playful as a puppy! I love a friendly girl with just the right amount of moxie so what a treat to spend time snuggling with this little brindle gem as she bounces up for hugs and playfully (but very gently) mouths my hand as we cuddle. She’s far from being an ‘iron lady’ like her namesake and much too silly for her formal name so of course I find myself calling her Maggie, Maggie-moo and a dozen other endearments as she hops up on my lap and offers an elusive but beautiful smile in which only her itty bitty lower teeth show themselves. Thatcher meets new dogs with submissive good manners and though she can be a bit intimidated by the sudden appearance of a stranger in front of her, once she knows you mean no harm it’s open season on tail wagging, butt-wiggling good times. She aced the handling portions of her behavior assessment and loves having her head petted and she takes treats very softly and seems to be quite house trained too. With an active yet patient adopter committed to desensitizing her to unfamiliar situations and people, I guarantee Thatcher is going to shine like the brightest star. Life may have thrown her a curve ball but this pint-sized Princess is more than ready to jump back in the game, recruit her for your home team today!
07/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Thatcher came to our center when a member of the public found her tied to a fence and she jumped up to bite their hand. Upon entering the SAFER assessment room, Thatcher appeared startled to see assistant and stood square, low growl, hard bark. She did approach assistant later in the assessment and loosened up, soft body, and allowed handling. Thatcher allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft, tail wag. She accepted the touch during Sensitivity, wiggly body, tail wagging. Thatcher followed at the end of leash, loose body, settling easily at end of game. Before positioning for Squeeze, Thatcher jumped up playfully on assessor, but hard and strong. She gently pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Thatcher gulped Food when dish was moved, requiring moderate pressure. She held Toy and Rawhide with a firm grip, loose, wiggly body. Thatcher did not approach the helper dog, choosing to exit. Due to Thatcher’s bite history and her initial fearfulness with strangers Thatcher would do best if placed in a home with no children. Thatcher may do well with obedience classes to learn body awareness including not to jump. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail waggin, body soft. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog is loose and wiggly and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is wagging with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body loose. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 3. Dog gulps food, begins to eat faster and with bigger bites. She lifts head with moderate pressure from hand applied to cheek. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, exits.
