10/17/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Talan came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Talan was interested with other animals when she heard sounds but she did allow all handling. During SAFER Talan came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Talan was distracted but not fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Talan was easy to handle when engaged with the items. It was reported Talan is nervous and will growl when approached by other dogs. When the other dogs turn away from her she will become less tense and sniff them briefly. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an “average” adopter but with a thorough dog to dog interaction if adopter to the public. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft, but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Talan is nervous and will growl when approached. When the other dogs turn away from her she will become less tense and sniff them briefly.
