SAFER: AVERAGE HOME
Sweets came to the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on his past behaviors in a home, but his finder did state while briefly in their care Sweets allowed all handling, and was very affectionate and attention seeking. During SAFER Sweets was a bit shy, and had a tense body posture when interacting with the assessor, but he allowed all handling items to be completed. During the tag interaction Sweets was distracted by objects in the room, but with coaxing he approached the assessor with a loose body at the end of the game. During the resources portion of the assessment Sweets was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, but was not interested in the toys, and only showed minimal interest for rawhides. Sweets can be a bit shy, but has not shown any behavioral concerns while at the care center. The department feels Sweets can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit stiff and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body a bit tense and trembles, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip licks.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor.
Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek.
Toy 1: No interest.
Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs Sweets greets politely but is more interested in exploring his surroundings.
PLAYGROUP: When off leash with other dogs Sweets greets politely but is more interested in exploring his surroundings. 8/13 update: Sweets greets politely and is interested but does not engage in play.
