A staff member writes: Suzie G is a friendly, social, and energetic pup. Suzie is also deaf! This pup would do best in a home with experienced dog owners as she is mouthy when she gets excited. Suzie plays well with other dogs in playgroup. Meet Suzie G and see why she is so special.
BEHAVIOR:
Suzie G came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Suzie G solicited attention with her tail wagging, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Suzie G came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social and very playful towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Suzie G joins the game and becomes mouthy with mild pressure during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Suzie G was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Suzie G can be somewhat rough during play and consistently jumps on the assessor strongly throughout the entire assessment and was difficult to position. The behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no young children.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body and becomes mouthy with mild pressure. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins.
Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Licks hand.
Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek.
Toy: 1. No interest.
Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide.
Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Suzie G greets politely and engages in gentle, running play with a playful male. She may become overwhelmed when play becomes too exuberant.
Group Behavior: When off leash with other dogs, Suzie G greets politely and engages in gentle, running play with a playful male. She may become overwhelmed when play becomes too exuberant.
