04/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Joe previously lived with two adults and small children. The owner stated Joe is usually tolerant around the children (doesn’t play with them) and respectful towards everyone in the household. His activity level was said to be a medium, and when home alone he is well behaved. It was mentioned that Joe can be nervous of storms/fireworks, and it was noted that he is mostly house trained, and will use piddle pads if not taken out. At intake it was noted that Joe was vocal (barking), but playful allowing all handling. During SAFER Joe was a bit shy, but with a slow approach he easily warmed up to the assessor. He was distracted during some of the handling portion of the assessment and became uncomfortable during the paw handling. During the resource items, Joe was easy to handle when engaged, and did not show any concerns when the items were being removed. The Behavior Department feels, Joe would be best suited for an experienced adopter, and a slow approach during introductions is recommended. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, and panting, he displayed high movement between attempts. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Squeeze 2: 3. Dog head flips while pulling back paw. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Joe is friendly and wants to engage with other dogs and is tolerant when greeting.
