10/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sumatran came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Sumatran was nervous with her tail tucked but she did allow all handling. During SAFER Sumatran came in the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sumatran was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sumatran was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Sumatran appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed.. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit tense. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Sumatran is anxious and seems uncomfortable. She mostly avoids interaction with the helper dog.
10/29/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Sumatran may allow greeting briefly but generally seems uncomfortable interacting with other dogs. Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Sumatran go to a home with no other dogs. However, a home with another dog can be considered pending a thorough pre-adoption interaction. When off leash with other dogs, Sumatran is anxious and seems uncomfortable. She mostly avoids interaction with the helper dog. 10/30 update: Sumatran may allow brief greeting but becomes uncomfortable and will growl when approached again. 11/03 update: Sumatran is a bit anxious and may sniff the other dog briefly but is more focused on interacting with the handlers. 11/4 update: Sumatran greets politely at first but becomes a bit stiff when re-engaging with the other dog. 11/05 update: Sumatran greets the other dog briefly but is more focused on interacting with the handlers.
