09/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Staff kept telling me how much I would love Stormy, and boy were they right! He’s a gorgeous boy in his white coat, grey ears and a smile that will melt the hardest of hearts. He alternates between being very sad and serious looking, and then wagging his tail and wearing a bright smile. What a doll! Surrendered with his housemate, Star (A1052511), he showed me nice leash manners as we walked to the park, and ignored squirrels and birds in front of us. We were told by his people that he’s housetrained (check), has been with kids of all ages and is playful, respectful and gentle with them, plays exuberantly with other dogs, likes squeaky toys, and doesn’t like to be home alone. In group play he was social, greets others, and roams the pen…Stormy enjoyed my treats, and his eyes sparkled as he tried to get into my bag for more. Too cute! He’s snuggly and affectionate, trying to get on my lap, but having to settle for his upper half only. Gorgeously groomed, sturdy in his build, with a friendly gentle personality, Stormy is looking for a new family or person to love. How about it? Ask to meet him when you visit.
09/25/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Stormy pulls a bit on leash. He was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body and tail, but trying to stay close. Stormy was shy and nervous and trembled during handling, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Stormy did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Stormy was surrender to us. Stormy’s previous owner described him as: playful, confident, excitable, affectionate, mellow, independent, and friendly with a high activity level. Stormy has been around children of all ages and is relaxed and playful with them. Stormy plays with children he is gentle. Stormy will bark at other dogs that she is not used to. When Stormy plays with other dogs she is very exuberant. Stormy has never been around any cats so it is unknown how he would react to them”. Stormy is reported to show destructive behavior in the home. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Stormy will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so Stormy can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Stormy has been showing fearful behavior. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Stormy is more comfortable and settled in a home environment.
