07/11/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I happened to cross paths in the hallway with Stimpy when a driver was bringing him in – and so began my love for him! He is big and has a goofy grin. He has spots inside of his spots and even blue spots on his brown eyes, but his special markings are far from the only thing that makes him special. He wags his tail in a circle when I approach his cage and is a joy to be with. For the most part he walks nicely on the leash and he seems housebroken. Stimpy knows “sit” and takes treats like the refined gentleman he is. When I have him off leash he’s content to explore, but checks in often and loves to be pet. He has an adorable repertoire of vocalizations – including the howl I’ve caught him doing in his cage, and the whiny bark when he’s checking out another dog through the fence. Stimpy may not be a young buck, but he’s as cool as they come! He’s looking for a family to grow older with and charm for the rest of his days – please come meet sweet Stimpy at Brooklyn ACC!
07/03/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Stimpy came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have information on his past behaviors in a home. Upon arrival to the care center Stimpy was reported to be very playful and easy to handle. During SAFER Stimpy was sociable, and maintained a relaxed body posture for all handling items as well as the tag interaction. During the resources portion of the assessment Stimpy was easy to handle when engaged with the food, allowing the assessor to easily push him out of the food bowl. He only showed minimal interest in the toys, and when engaged with the rawhides, Stimpy had a loose and wiggly body and relinquished the item to the assessor. Stimpy appears to be very sociable and has not shown any behavioral concerns while at the care center, so the department feels Stimpy can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog licks, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish rawhide to you. Dog-dog: when off leash with other dogs, Stimpy is becoming more confident in the yard and shows a bit of assertiveness when interacting.
