04/16/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1032517 Starburst came in as stray surrender, so his past behavior in a home is unknown. At intake it was noted that Starburst was very fractious and would not allow any handling. During SAFER Starburst would not allow the assessor to safely collar him, and bared his teeth while growling when the assessor slowly approached. Due to this behavior and safety concerns no handling items were attempted at this time. During the resources portion of the assessment, Starburst growled and snapped at the assess-a-hand when the assessor attempted to remove the food and rawhides items. He was not interested in the toys, and did not approach the helper dog during the dog-dog interaction. The department feels placement with a New Hope partner is recommend so that the behaviors seen during SAFER can be more fully explored. Also behavior modification work by an experienced and competent trainer is recommended before seeking placement into a permanent home. Food: 5. Dog snaps at assess-a-hand. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 5. Dog snap at assess-a-hand. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, and exits.
