11/15/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I can’t quite put my finger on why I love Star so much…but I do! It could be her super sweet face that sort of reminds me of a manatee and the soft eye contact that comes with it. Or how she’s pleasantly plump, but is unexpectedly a fetching machine. Her feet are a little tender due to allergies, so she doesn’t exactly run after the ball, but she carries it in her mouth with such purpose and joy! She will fit in places you wouldn’t think possible to get it back, and always drops it right next to me on the bench, even pushing it towards me with her nose! She is easy to handle on leash and seems housetrained, what’s not to love about that? She is reported to be playful and gentle with both children and other dogs… love! She seems to have a perfect middle-aged energy level, exudes charm, and is just so easy to be with. She hasn’t been demanding of affection with me, but seems very grateful to receive it. I do know the only thing I don’t love about Star is the worry she has caused me, knowing I can’t do her justice in words! Please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC and discover all the things there are to love about her!! She is a really a gem!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1039289 Star previously lived with two adults and has been around children. The owner stated Star is relaxed, playful and respectful towards everyone in the household. The owner mentioned Star is playful and gentle towards other dogs but when she sees cats she will give them a chase. It was reported by the owner Star is house trained, crate trained and has a high activity level. The owner describes Star as playful, excitable, affectionate, anxious and friendly. At intake it was reported Star was excitable and anxious, she did allow all handling. During SAFER Star came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Star was relaxed during the tag interaction. During paw squeeze test flank was applied due to all her paws being raw, she didn’t respond at all and during the resources portion of the assessment Star was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Star appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. 11/11/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Star greets other dogs politely and is a bit bouncy but doesn’t actually engage in play. Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Star can go to a home with male dogs and may be placed with a female dog but we recommend that a pre-adoption interaction be required. Star does well with most playstyles but she may not engage in play with highly playful dogs. ***Star is a social group greeter and helper dog.*** When off leash with other dogs, Star is a bit stressed but greets the other dog politely. She may re-engage with the helper dog briefly but spends most of her time pacing the pen. 11/13, 11/14, 11/15, 11/16 update: Star greets politely, is tolerant of mounting and is a bit bouncy but does not actually engage in play. 11/17- 11/22 update: Star greets politely and is a bit bouncy but does not actually engage in play. She offers appropriate corrections for pushy behavior.
