08/04/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/04/15 16:59 Aqua and Stacks were brought to ACC after their owner and his significant other separated. Their owner moved out 2 weeks ago and left them with his ex-girlfriend. Their owner got Aqua about 4 months ago from a friend. He’s known her since she was a puppy. He got Stacks from his previous owner when he was 2 months old. Aqua and Stacks have lived with and spent time with children of all ages. They’re relaxed, playful, affectionate, and very tolerant with them. They’ve lived with each other, other dogs, and cats. They’re relaxed, friendly, and playful with other pets in their home. Stacks and relaxed, friendly, and playful with animals he meets outside, but Aqua sometimes barks at them. Aqua and Stacks have never bit anyone. Aqua and Stacks are house trained and well-behaved in their home. Aqua and Stacks had loose, wiggly bodies, open mouths, and wagging tails during intake and handling-scan (+ for Aqua, – for Stacks), collar, switching leashes, petting, positioning for pictures, and putting into kennel. They leaned into us while we pet them. They sat and went into their kennels when asked.
08/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Stacks is writing a book, “How to Make Friends in Four Easy Lessons”. 1. Look adorable and welcoming 2. Wag Tail 3. Give Kisses 4. Lean in for Cuddles. Seriously awesome and amazing – I’m in love. A favorite of all, I hadn’t had a chance to meet him as he was always out with volunteers who adore him for his gentle demeanor, awesome leash manners, and easy going nature. Whether it’s giving gentle kisses, rolling over for a belly rub, playing with a toy or plush toy, or simply hanging out next to me, Stacks eyes sparkle and his tail wags gently. Surrendered due to a divorce and joining us with his friend Aqua (A1046673), Stacks had been with his person since he was a puppy. We’re told he’s housetrained (check), has spent time with kids of all ages and is gentle, respectful and tolerant of them, lived with cats and other dogs, and is well behaved when home alone. In play group he’s social and plays hard, but is respectful when another dog doesn’t want to engage. He didn’t guard his toy when we played, comes when I call him, and climbs up on the bench to spend snuggle time with him. When staff and other volunteers all love a dog it’s with good reason, so come meet our resident rock star and make him yours. I’ll even give up my self appointed title of President of the Stacks fan club – he’s that awesome!
08/06/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Stacks came into our center along with another dog as an owner surrender on 8/4/2015. Owner reports Stacks has lived with and spent time with children of all ages as well as other dogs and cats, being relaxed, playful and friendly with all. During intake, Stacks had loose, wiggly body, open mouth, wagging tail. Stacks walked nicely on leash for his relief walk unless he found something he was interested in, in which case he pulled hard. Stacks pulled out of assessor’s hands at all three attempts at Look item, shoulder rubbing. He leaned in during Sensitivity item, tail wagging, body soft. Stacks was distracted and unresponsive during Tag game, but began to engage in play after the third pass, jumping up on assessor hard. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, wagging tail. During positioning for Food item, Stacks jumped straight up hard to lick assistant’s face. He required a moderate amount of pressure to lift his head out of the Food bowl. Stacks played enthusiastically with Toy, keeping a firm grip and very loose, wiggly body, fast wagging tail. He took Rawhide away, body neutral, requiring a trade up of food to relinquish. Due to his size and strength, the Behavior Team feels Stacks would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, focus, and body awareness in regards to hard jumping. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth, tail wag. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor, hard jump on assessor at end. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, tail wag. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body soft. Dog lifts head after a moderate amount of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold, body neutral.
