10/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Staci came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Staci was friendly with her tail wagging. She allowed all handling. During SAFER Staci came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly, social and playful towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Staci was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Staci was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Staci appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit tense. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Staci greets politely and will engage in gentle, running play with a playful male. She will correct when play becomes too exuberant.
10/28/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Staci was initially nervous but is becoming more comfortable and will engage in play with both males and females. Based on her behavior during playgroup, the Behavior Department recommends that Staci can go to a home with both male and female dogs. She seems to do well with both playful and non-playful dogs so any playstyle can be considered but we recommend a slow introduction process so she does not become overwhelmed. When off leash with other dogs, Staci greets politely and will engage in gentle, running play with a playful male. She will correct when play becomes too exuberant. 10/29 update: Staci is nervous at first but becomes more comfortable and eventually attempts to solicit play. 10/31 update: Staci is social and greets other dogs politely. She will attempt to solicit play and will engage brief bouts of running play with both males and females. 11/01 update: Staci initially was anxious exhibiting a tucked tail, a lowered head and hiding from the other dogs. She eventually loosened her body language and engaged in chase play.
