04/06/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
04/06/15 11:45 Stacey came in as a stray surrender. Upon intake Stacey was slightly cautious for introduction with a still and slightly stiff body posture and wide eyes. In a short time Stacey became loose and receptive to all handling including scan for microchip (negative) and collar. Stacey walked well on leash and was responsive to guidance.
04/13/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Stacey is usually quietly curled up in her cage with her eyes open wide — like she’s still trying to make sense of this loud, scary place she finds herself in. She was tail-tucked when I first walked her, but quickly warmed up and is now very affectionate. She seems housebroken and for the most part has good leash manners. When we see another dog crossing the street towards us, Stacey’s tail is back to touching her belly, but she is easily distracted. She knows “sit” and does an adorable pitter-patter with her front paws when waiting for treats. On one walk we took a “cuddle-break” on a stoop and since then Stacey hops up there and waits for me to join her! When I do she rests her paws on my lap and even gives gentle kisses. Off leash she doesn’t stray far from my side, but proves that she is getting more comfortable with new people too, as she props her paws on a fence to meet a staff member (who, understandably, is charmed!). She seems to find great comfort in human companionship and is a joy to be with! Could this bunny-eared beauty with the Mona Lisa smile be your match?? Sweet Stacey is patiently waiting at Brooklyn ACC!
04/10/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper Dog:A1031800 Stacey came in as a stray surrender so her past behavior in a home is unknown. At intake Stacey was reported to be slightly cautious for introduction with a stiff body posture and wide eyes. In a short time Stacey became loose and receptive to all handling including and walked well on leash and was responsive to guidance. Upon entry to the assessment room Stacey appeared to be nervous but after some time she became sociable when greeting the assessor. During SAFER She became stiff and uncomfortable with some of the handling items, but was relaxed during the tag interaction. Stacey was easily pushed out of the food bowl during the food item and was not interested in any of the toys, and only showed minimal interest in the rawhides. When approaching the helper dog during the dog-dog interaction, Stacy approached with her body stiff and growled when close. Stacy needs a slow approach and time to become comfortable at her own pace, so the Behavior Department feels Stacy would be best suited for an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 4. Dog holds eye contact while remaining motionless with ears forward. Her body is stiff and becomes stiffer as assessment progresses. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: 4. Dog approaches the helper dog while growling.
04/19/2015 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When greeting a neutered male dog at the gate, Stacey lip curls, growls, and barks. She does not tolerate collaring or a muzzle, so she cannot be off-leash with other dogs in the care center. When greeting the same helper dog at the gate again, she is unreactive the first time but growls at the second approach. We recommend that any future introductions be performed slowly and carefully, keeping Stacey at a distance and below her threshold until she stops reacting, using positive reinforcement to change her underlying emotional state. Stacey may be most comfortable in a home where she is the only dog.
