05/23/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/23/15 13:21 Squeak is an adult Staffordshite Terrier mix what was brought in as a stray. In the carrier he was whining and barking, but had a loose body and a wagging tail. He allowed the counselor to lasso him with a rope and when he got out proceeded to smell everything on the floor and everywhere else through out the intake. He allowed the counselor to collar him although he was unsure of the collar and put his mouth on it a few times and ducked away. He turned it into a game. He also allowed the counselor to scan him.

05/27/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Squeak came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake he had loose body and wagging tail, he allowed the counselor to take him out of the crate and when he got out proceeded to smell everything on the floor and everywhere else throughout the intake. He also allowed the counselor to collar him although he was unsure of the collar and put his mouth on it a few times and ducked away, he turned it into a game. During SAFER Squeak came into the assessment room loose with his tail wagging, sensitivity he struggled to get away from the assessor but not fearful, tag-interaction he was easily over aroused and mouth the rope with his body stiff. When the first paw squeeze was attempted he didn’t respond, on the second attempted he mouths the assessor hand with no pressure. Food, toy and rawhide he freezes with his body stiff. Squeak shows potential for possessive behavior over food, toy and rawhide. Due to some concerns we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification to address this guarding behavior and can extensively counsel potential adopters before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 4. Dog struggles to get away from the assessor but not fearful. If able, he muzzle punches the hand. Very fast head movements. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, mouth likely closed for at least half of the assessment item, easily over aroused, body stiff and body checks the Assessor. Dog is often focused on other stimuli in the room. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Food: 4. Dog freezes. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes.
